June is National Safety Month One of the most prevalent safety issues in our current culture is injury and death caused by DISTRACTED DRIVING.
The National Safety Council cautions against not only texting while driving but also taking calls using a “hands free” method as well as doing anything else while driving. Other common distractions include eating, putting on makeup, shaving, and using any type of phone apps/navigation tools. The recommendation from law enforcement and also the National Safety Council is: “Just Drive.” Don’t do anything else while driving.
A fall, particularly for those over 65, is almost always life changing. As you get older, physical changes, health conditions, and sometimes the medications used to treat those conditions, make falls more likely. In fact, falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults. Consider six simple fall-prevention strategies.
1. Make an appointment with your doctor. Be prepared to answer questions such as:
What are the distractions in your life that keep you from serving God whole-heartedly? What are the things that need to be removed from your life to prevent a fall? “Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Happy Summer and God Bless!
