If there is one thing as important as good nutrition to stay healthy, it would be hydration.
Whether you are 1 or 100, the body needs water to function. In fact, the human body is able to withstand food deprivation much longer than that of fluids.
Our hydration source needs to be pure…that is nontoxic. We see the effects of leaded water in the community of Flint, MI (My Home Town). For developing brains, it was devastating. We should also consider how much sugar is in the fluids that we ingest on a regular basis. Sugar is food for cancer cells. It is also the leading cause of obesity.
We need to drink an appropriate quantity of water. Our bodies are made up of 60% water. That means in order for our cells to perform optimally, we do need about 8 8-oz glasses each day. For the elderly, it may seem excessive. But, it prevents a host of problems that plague us as we age. Urinary tract infections and constipation are 2 common ailments that can greatly be reduced with proper hydration.
Our hydration should be consistent. Drinking throughout the day keeps our bodies at peak performance. It can help with chronic arthritis pain as well as enabling us to perform in athletic events with better endurance.
In our Spiritual walk, we want to partake of the Living Water. Jesus said “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst, the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” Again, on the last day (the great day) of the Feast of Booths, Jesus stood up and said “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” And so let’s remember, as we are drinking physical water to keep our bodies healthy, come also to Jesus to drink of the water He offers. He is Pure! And if we drink consistently and frequently, rivers of Living water will flow from our innermost being!
