Reformed Theology 101:
A Crash Course on the Creeds and Confessions of Our Faith
Course instructor: Rick Kline
Have you ever been struggling and had someone say to you, “You’re not alone.”? Well, they were right! The Lord Jesus gave his life for us, the Church and we are bound together through him. God’s perception of the Church is that she is one – a unity. This unity and oneness of the Church extends throughout all time, as time is a human boundary and not a heavenly boundary.
Being bound together with our Christian predecessors, the Presbyterian Church has adopted nine statements or declarations of the Christian faith that stretch from the fourth century through the twentieth century. These creeds and confessions are a reflection of our unity with our Christian forebears. These nine statements all come from the Reformed stream of Christianity and help us to better understand what it means to be a congregation shaped and informed by the Reformed tradition.
This course is designed to provide a broad view of the Christian faith over the past 17 centuries so that all who participate might know the solid theology upon which the Church stands and how to view our present world in light of the lessons of the past. Knowing the context of the creeds and confessions throughout these centuries can better equip all of us today as we stand as the living witnesses of the resurrected Christ in our time and culture.
