Who We Are and What We Do

“We are a community of growing disciples growing disciples.”

First, we are a community grounded in an ancient, worldwide faith and a vital, living relationship with Jesus Christ who is Lord of all.  We seek to love, serve, and follow him as we love one another and our neighbors well. You could say Jesus is our beginning point, our path, and our destination. And the Bible is our map.

Second, each person is called to be a growing disciple. In other words, we encourage each other to pursue knowing Jesus and growing in our faith, Scripture, and the practical habits of following Jesus in everyday life and ministry.

Third, Jesus has commissioned all disciples to help others become growing disciples. This means we assist others who are curious about Jesus, like what they see in us, and are perhaps disillusioned with the current path they may be on. Our intent is that all who hunger and thirst find refreshment, healing, answers and new life with Jesus and among Jesus’ people.

We want everyone to find a purpose and a place in what God is doing right now in our world. We want everyone to experience the loving presence of Jesus, feel part of a warm, loving Christian community, and to grow up into a life of goodness and beauty – and all this absolutely includes the children and youth in our lives and in our neighborhood!

What Are the Values which Color
Everything We Are and Do?

Everything at CPC is shaped by and filtered through the following values:

· Prayer and Worship – In everything we come to the one Jesus taught us to call “Father,” enabled by the Holy Spirit given to us. We gather around Him, retell the great biblical story, and find our place in this story.

· Community – Jesus has brought us together, adopted into the family of God, now brothers and sisters reconciled to God and to one another.

· Compassion – Prayer and worship form the community which is marked by compassion for others. Mercy and grace flow freely.

· Life-change – Christ-centered communities of compassion result in personal transformation.

· Mission – Motivated by love, we are transformed, and our inward focus turns outward. We step out of our comfort zones and become Jesus’ hands and feet, loving our neighbors locally and globally.

· Investing in the Next Generation – We empower and equip parents and other adults to take interest and make a difference in the lives of our children and youth that they might live for and serve Jesus.

FAITH, MEMBERSHIP & DISCIPLESHIP

What We BELIEVE

In the Presbyterian Church we shy away from simple statements of faith, believing that the work and love of God is too rich and wonderful to describe in any single statement. As part of the church universal and with countless other denominations and congregations we hold strongly to the foundational and ancient declarations of faith: the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed. As part of the Protestant and Reformed tradition we hold classic Reformation statements such as Westminster ConfessionThe Heidelberg Catechism, and The Theological Declaration of Barmen faithfully describe what the Bible would have us know and believe. The collection of confessions and creeds may be found at https://eco-pres.org/eco-confessional-standards/

As part of A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians (ECO) denominational family we hold firmly to our Essential Tenets which form the first part of ECO’s Constitution. This document may be found at: https://www.eco-pres.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/eco_constitution_online6.14.19.pdf

Just as Christ Jesus welcomes all, so we at Community Presbyterian Church welcome and invite all to participate in worship, study, fellowship, and prayer and to receive pastoral care. Whether seeker or devout, broken or healed, grieving or rejoicing, all are welcome. While participation in any or all of our ministry areas is open to all without restriction, definition, or limitation, active membership is more carefully and precisely defined in the Presbyterian Church.

Here at CPC members are considered covenant partners in the mission and ministries of the church.  Because this is a step of covenantal relationship commitment we encourage people to spend sufficient time participating in the life of the church before considering membership. It is important to know what we believe, what we hold true and right, and what it means to be a covenant partner. Two to three times per year we hold membership classes. These are an opportunity to learn more about the church and discern how God is leading you to serve without any obligation to join. Should you have questions about membership (or anything about the life and ministry of CPC) we welcome your questions and urge you to talk to one of the pastors or ministry staff leaders.
