C Gilbert "Gil" Eigenhuis Jr. was born January 10, 1945 in Long Beach, CA, to Clarence and Thelma Eigenhuis.  After a brief illness, he passed peacefully into heaven on February 11, 2017 in Ventura, CA, surrounded by his dearly loved family. 

Gil became a believer in Christ at a young age.  He had an exceptional singing voice, and used it to glorify the Lord with solos, duets, small ensembles and large choral productions.  As a boy, he sang with the Pasadena Boy Choristers .  His father was a pastor, and the family had a radio broadcast called Family Hour Devotions.  He and his siblings often sang on the program.  Although most of his songs had a gospel message, Gil sang the lead part in the local theater production Carousel.

Always a hard worker, Gil began his career at GTE (now Verizon) at the age of 18.  He worked as a line man, then a cable splicer.  He eventually became a marketing executive, selling telephone systems to large corporations, including the Bank of America, and won many sales awards.  He retired with 28 years of service at the age of 46!  For a few years during this time, he was also a part owner of the Fern Oaks Inn, a small bed and breakfast  in Santa Paula, CA.

Gil was very proud of serving his country in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam war.  He was stationed at Castle Air Force Base, and was Airman of the Quarter.  He also served as the maitre d' at the Non-Commissioned Officers Club on the base, where he booked up-and-coming artists such as Kenny Rogers and Credence Clearwater Revival.

In 1965, he married Barbara Whitcomb, who gave him three wonderful children, daughter Shellie, and twin sons, Paul and Phillip.  In 2003, he married Joan Lansing, who survives him.  Their life together was filled with fun, friends, trips, concerts, music, movies, and time with their extended families. 

Gil loved the Lord with all his heart and never grew tired of serving Him.  He used his many gifts in various churches throughout southern California and Tucson, AZ.  As a young man, he was ordained in the Assemblies of God, and preached in churches throughout California.  He taught Bible and finance classes, led small groups, served as a Christian Education Director, a Deacon, a Stephen Minister and Stephen Leader, and more.  Most recently, he served at Community Presbyterian Church in Ventura, where he was affectionately known as Grandpa Gil.

Gil is survived by his daughter, Shellie (husband Jeff), and her children, Joshua, Jacob, Jordan and Jesse Way, son Phill (wife Missy) and their children, Kai and Kalan Eigenhuis, son Paul (wife Jenny), and their children Dylan, Taylor and Ryan Eigenhuis, and several great-grandchildren.  His sister Sharon Field pre-deceased him, but he is survived by sisters Karen Pulliam (husband Glenn), Sandi Johnston (husband Jim), Lorri Herrick (husband Greg) and brother Douglas Eigenhuis (wife Krista).  He also leaves behind stepson Dave Regan (wife Jane), and their children, Julia, Katherine, Jonathan and Timothy, and stepdaughter Lindy Madden (husband Jake) and their children, Summer, Emily and Benjamin.  As well, Gil had many dear friends who were like family to him.

A celebration of Gil's life was held on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Community Presbyterian Church, 1555 Poli Street, Ventura.  A giver to the end, Gil donated his body to UCLA for medical research.  In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to any organization that spreads the good news of Jesus' love.
